What you can do with
Paysoft Verifications
Paysoft enables your business to verify bank account details and identities before money moves. By validating account formats, confirming ownership and authenticating identities, our verification solutions reduce risk across every stage of the transaction lifecycle.
Check-Digit Validation (CDV)
Validate bank account and branch codes before payments or collections. CDV confirms account numbers follow South African bank rules, reducing rejected transactions and bank fees. Built into Paysoft payment solutions.
Account Verification Service (AVS)
Confirm a bank account exists and belongs to the specified person or business. AVS verifies account existence, name matching, identity alignment, and debit or credit capability before you pay or collect.
ID Verification
Verify that a South African ID number belongs to the claimed individual or entity. Identity checks go beyond format validation, confirming authenticity against trusted sources to reduce fraud before onboarding, mandates or payouts.

Why This Matters
To Your Business
Verification is critical to payment accuracy, fraud prevention, compliance pressure and operational efficiency. Incorrect account details cause failed transactions and reprocessing costs, while misdirected payments create financial and reputational risk. Paysoft helps address these challenges with reliable verification solutions.
Reduced rejected transactions
CDV automatically pre-validates account formats before submission, lowering failure rates and reprocessing costs.
Protection against misdirected payments
AVS confirms that the bank account belongs to the intended individual or business before funds move.
Stronger fraud prevention controls
ID Verification confirms identity authenticity, reducing risk during onboarding and high-value transactions.
Improved compliance and audit readiness
Verification creates documented proof of validation and identity checks to support regulatory and internal governance requirements.
Cleaner data across payment and collection cycles
Accurate information at the start reduces downstream disputes, reversals and manual intervention.

Frequently Asked
Questions
What is the difference between CDV, AVS and ID Verification?
They each answer a different question. Check-Digit Validation (CDV) asks: is this bank account number and branch code valid against the range of account numbers allocated for the specific bank? It catches errors before submission. Account Verification Service (AVS) asks: does this bank account belong to this specific person or business? It confirms the account exists, is open and is linked to the correct identity. ID Verification asks: is this person or business who they claim to be? It checks that the ID number or company registration number is valid against registered home affairs and CIPC data. Together, they form a three-layer defence before any money moves.
Does CDV confirm that a bank account exists?
No. CDV only validates that the account number and branch code are valid against the range of account numbers allocated for the specific bank, not that the account is live or belongs to a specific person. For that level of certainty, you need AVS. CDV is automatically built into every Paysoft product at no additional cost and runs before every submission.
What exactly does AVS verify?
AVS checks the details supplied by the individual or company against the actual profile held by the bank. It confirms whether the account exists and is open, whether the ID number or company registration number matches, whether the name or company name matches, whether the account type is correct, whether the account accepts debits and credits, and whether the email address and mobile number on record match. It is the most complete account ownership verification available in South Africa.
How quickly does AVS return a result?
Real-time AVS returns results in under 60 seconds and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For large datasets, the batch AVS service takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours and can be submitted between 06:00 and 16:00, 7 days a week. Both options are accessible via Paysoft’s secure web platform or API.
Why should I verify a bank account before making a payment?
South African businesses lose money every year to misdirected payments and payment fraud. Even a single incorrect account number can send funds to the wrong person, and recovering those funds is slow and uncertain. AVS gives you confirmed certainty that the account you are about to pay belongs to the correct person or business before the transaction is submitted. This protects your business from fraud, reduces payment reversals and strengthens your audit position.
When should I use ID Verification versus AVS?
Use ID Verification when you need to confirm that a person or business is who they claim to be. This is typically before onboarding a new customer, signing a debit order mandate or approving a high-value transaction. Use AVS when you want to confirm that a specific bank account belongs to a specific person or business before making a payment or collecting funds. The two services work best together and are fully integrated within Paysoft’s verification stack alongside CDV.
Is validation built into all Paysoft products automatically?
Yes. CDV is automatically included in every standard Paysoft product at no additional cost. Every payment or collection batch is pre-validated before submission. AVS and ID Verification can be added as standalone or integrated services depending on your business’s risk profile and onboarding requirements.
Can I run bulk verification requests or only one at a time?
Both. Paysoft supports single and bulk verification processing through AVS. You can submit an individual account for real-time checking or upload a full batch for processing. This makes the service practical for both onboarding new clients and cleaning or validating existing debtor databases before a collection run.
How does Paysoft’s verification layer reduce fraud risk for my business?
The three-layer approach of CDV, AVS and ID Verification closes the gaps that fraudsters exploit. CDV prevents invalid accounts from reaching the bank. AVS confirms the account is real and belongs to the right person or business before money moves. ID Verification confirms the identity behind the account is legitimate before you onboard or extend credit. This significantly reduces your exposure to impersonation fraud, misdirected payments and the cost of reversals.
